Chinese Protection Measures for Digital Communication
According to Ahuja's World patent and Trademark News for August 31, 2006, the Chinese "Protection Measures on the Right of Communication on Digital Network" effective on July 1, 2006, provide protection to copyright owners and performers for communication of their works or performances on the Internet.
The Protection Measures also prohibit the circumvention of effective
technological measures that are used by authors/performers in connection with
the exercise of their rights of communication over the Internet [and] render it illegal for any person to, without authority, remove or alter any electronic "rights management information" or to distribute works/performances or copies thereof knowing that the electronic "rights management information" has been removed or altered. In this context, "rights management information" refers to information attached to a piece of work/performance which identifies particulars of the work/performance, the author or the performer, the terms and conditions of use of the work or performance, etc. . . .
