Teleconference Overview
Major corporations worldwide that never needed to manage intellectual property strategically are facing major shifts in the threats and opportunities presented by intellectual property. Inserting an effective enterprise-wide intellectual property group inside a large corporation presents a number of challenges. Today's presentation offers insights from two leaders operating in very different industries, with different country footprints, and with quite different business and cultural imperatives.

Speakers

Michael B. Lachuk is Deputy General Counsel and Director of the Intellectual Property Group at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He is a registered U.S. patent attorney. His practice includes all aspects of protecting and leveraging the company's intellectual property. SAIC is a Fortune 500 company and the nation's largest employee-owned research and engineering company. SAIC is one of the largest U.S. government contractors offering a wide variety of military, civilian, and commercial products and services such as complex system integration, consulting, advanced telecommunications hardware, and software products and services.

Frank Cuypers is the Head of Intellectual Property at Swiss Re, the world's largest reinsurance company, where he has developed the patenting & technology transfer program. As a member of Swiss Re's Executive Team, he is in charge of all intellectual property issues world wide. As a nuclear engineer (ULB), with a M.Sc. in nuclear physics (RPI) and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics (UNC), he has vast teaching experience and a prominent scientific track record. He also has a wide (re)insurance and risk management expertise and before joining Swiss Re he was Chief Actuary with Zurich Re.

Jim Myers hosts the IP Master Class and has been lead trial counsel in a wide variety of patent infringement litigation nationwide. He is listed in the Guide to the World's Leading Patent Law Experts and Who's Who in American Law, is a Member of the ALI-ABA Committee on Continuing Professional Education and a Master in the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court for intellectual property litigators.
