On the Importance of Financial Services Patents

"A key component to the ability of an organization to efficiently transfer technology through licensing is to create an environment where ideas and discoveries are harvested and turned into high quality patent applications and patents. This seemingly obvious step is often overlooked in companies, and especially in the financial service industry. One reason may be that patenting business methods employed in the financial services industry is relatively new; traditionally, developers and engineers in the field have not thought about the importance of patents to the organization's livelihood and managers have not had patent acquisition as a goal."

Interesting stuff. I have written a post about some facts about financial services patents. It helps to demonstrate that many companies are not actively pursuing patents in this area - even some of the largest financial services companies.
