GSK Seeks "Transferable Exclusivity" in the UK



According to a November 29, 2004 report in The Independent, GlaxoSmithKline has asked UK Prime Minister Tony Blair to reward the creation of drugs for developing world diseases could by extending patent-protection on medicines used in rich countries. So-called "transferable exclusivity," also known as "wild card patent extension," has also been proposed as a way to get large U.S. drug companies to develop new antibiotics.
