ICANN Announces .POST and .TRAVEL Domain Plans
On October 27, 2004 ICANN announced that it has entered into commercial and technical negotiations with two of the candidate registries, .post and .travel.
The .travel domain is being sponsored by the Travel Partnership, a New York-based industry group that seeks to raise the visibility of the global travel community. The Switzerland-based Universal Postal Union is sponsoring the .post domain, and has expressed the wish to further break down the domain if it is accepted. For example, U.S. postal agencies could use "usa.post" in their URLs.
Other domains that are still waiting to move forward include .jobs, .asia, and .mobi.
