European Trademark Fees Dropping Before November 1

On 20 September 2005, the Office for the Harmonization of the Internal Market adopted a positive opinion on the Draft Commission Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 2869/95 on reducing Community Trademark registration fees. The fee reduction is expected to take place before November 1, 2005 when the OHIM starts accepting requests for renewal of the oldest Community trade mark registrations.

The main fees affected by the reduction will be the application and class fees, the registration and class fees, the renewal and class fees, as well as the e-filing and e-renewal fees. Click here for a complete List of Fees (PDF) including the current and future amounts.

The OHIM announcement also notes that "the payment of CTM fees by cheque or cash will not be authorised anymore. It will be possible to pay fees by bank transfer to either one of our two bank accounts, BBVA or La Caixa, but the simplest way will be to open a current account. Through the Office’s current account all fees and charges that become due for procedural acts (applications, requests etc.), will be automatically debited from the current account, unless the client informs us to the contrary."
