EC Refuses to Restart Software Patent Directive Process

According to a February 28, 2005 article from ZDNet UK, the European Commission (EC) has rejected requests to rewrite the Computer Implemented Inventions Directive, "sparking a furious response from campaigners who accused the EC of acting undemocratically." "We expect the European Council to formalise the common position. The Commission stands ready to review all aspects of the directive," reportedly said an EC spokesman.

For more information on this topic, check out Axel H. Horns' Blog on Intellectual Property Law, writing that "According to various reports (here and here), EU Commissioner Mr. Charlie McCreevy has refused to comply with the request of the European Parliament to re-start the legislative process."
