INDUCE Act Industry Negotiations Breakdown

"We couldn't get the (entertainment industry) to follow through with what the [Senate Judiciary] committee told us to do, which was to punish bad acting," Andrew Greenberg, vice chairman of IEEE-USA's intellectual-property committee and a participant in Wedensday's industry negotiations reportedly told Wired Magazine. "What we ended up with was a bill to punish bad technologies, whatever that means. . . . Content owners should not be permitted to dictate the structure of dual-use technologies unless they are doing something to actively induce a third party to infringe."

The bill is up for discussion at today's business meeting of the Judiciary Committee.
