China Sole-Sourcing Sales of Certain Foreign Brands
According to a September 7, 2004 article in The Straits Times, China has banned the sale of top luxury brands outside Beijing chain stores, regardless of whether or not they are the genuine items.
"Regardless of providing genuine goods or counterfeits, vendors who sell those luxury brand names might face criminal charges for intellectual property violation," the official Xinhua news agency quoted Mr Li Dongsheng, vice-director of the State General Administration for Industry and Commerce, as saying.
